Common Sense

There was a fisherman, he lives with his sons and he loves them.
Every morning he wakes up early to set sail to catch the morning’s share of fish.
He works with joy, not only early in the morning does he catch fish, also at noontime, afternoon, and at night.
Until one day, while the sun was about to set; he felt dizzy after releasing his net with utmost force -which was usual.
His knees wobbled, his world turned upside-down.
He fell down the sea.
His sons had no food that night.
Because their father forgot to eat.

And Can It Be That I Should Gain?

And can it be that I should gain
an interest in the Savior's blood!
Died he for me? who caused his pain!
For me? who him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be
that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be
that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

'Tis mystery all: th' Immortal dies!
Who can explore his strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
to sound the depths of love divine.
'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
let angel minds inquire no more.
'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
let angel minds inquire no more.

He left his Father's throne above
(so free, so infinite his grace!),
emptied himself of all but love,
and bled for Adam's helpless race.
'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
for O my God, it found out me!
'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
for O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
fast bound in sin and nature's night;
thine eye diffused a quickening ray;
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
my chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in him, is mine;
alive in him, my living Head,
and clothed in righteousness divine,
bold I approach th' eternal throne,
and claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach th' eternal throne,
and claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Ch120_2

"Oy! What are you guys doing?"

Kathy waves as she greets her two classmates.

"Bumming around… Kim is trying to do the impossible." Karla replies nonchalantly, almost bored. Books and notes clutter the desk they’re working on.

"Oh?" Kathy says looking at Kim who is folding a piece of paper. "Have you guys studied for the exam next week?"

"Not that much… we still can’t understand the subject… Ma’am’s lecture is incomprehensible and the math involved is just too difficult…" Karla replies with the same stupor as before.

"Really? Then I should be studying my notes now!"

"Yep, you should do just that." Karla flips a page of the book she was reading as she says that. "Kim?…"

"Yup?" Kim answers, looking at Karla while she was still holding the piece of paper.

"Would you stop doing that? I told you already, it’s impossible to fold a piece of paper more than seven times."

It was a weekend, the coffee shop was filled with people. Heavy wafts of the sweet aroma of brewed coffee filled the small room. Two friends sat on a corner, one reclining lazily on his chair while the other sitting stiffly, focused on his laptop  while browsing the Internet; both waiting for their coffee to cool.

"Yo… Andrew, are you still listening?  I’ve been  ranting for almost thirty minutes now and you won’t even look at me."

"Because we’ve had this conversation for almost a month now…" Came the reply. "it’s cold turkey."

Adam sighed. Leaned forward towards Andrew, gesturing as if making an argument. Andrew looked at him incredulously. Adam sighed again. Reclined on his chair, crossed his arms and averted Andrew’s gaze.

"I miss her. Cold turkey doesn’t last this long."

Andrew snorted. "Yeah it does." And sipped his coffee.
